Collaborators

The Boyz Are Back Inc. brings people of diverse age, race, education, and socio-economic background together. Community collaborations are key to developing our volunteer base and securing in-kind donations.

Board members and volunteers are comprised of black and white adults, ages from 20s to 60+s, residing in middle-class to affluent neighborhoods. Education includes associate’s, bachelor’s, and postgraduate degrees.  Each person is associated with a faith-based group, such as predominantly black St. Peter’s World Outreach Church, Burning Flame Christian Church, and Union Baptist Church as well as predominantly white Agape Faith Church, Calvary Baptist Church, and Crossfire Church.

Those associated with The Boyz interact with representatives from government agencies, such as the Center for Community Safety and the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools (North Carolina). Local businesses, private schools, and non-profit groups are also involved primarily by making in-kind donations.

While interacting with youth, black volunteers demonstrate their similarities with white volunteers in terms of faith involvement. All volunteers expand their knowledge and understanding of the struggles faced by youth.

Community problem solving and lasting bonds of trust among diverse groups are advanced through The Boyz's services. For example, volunteers who serve as liaisons between school officials and families improve understanding and cooperation. As many long-term problems surface first in the school system, bridging those with diverse viewpoints aids in problem solving.

Faith-based organizations associated with The Boyz gain insight into the needs of the at-risk community, as a result, can develop and/or modify outreach programs for this population.

The following organizations have made in-kind donations to The Boyz:

▲    Charlotte Bobcats-basketball tickets;
