Mission
The Boyz Are Back Inc.
is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, faith-based organization in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, North Carolina.
We are dedicated to facilitating the academic,
physical, and spiritual development of youth.
Professional
athletes are major players in the organization as they attract youth as well as influence them in a positive
manner.
Major issues addressed
through our services:
- school performance, attendance, and
conduct;
-
criminal behavior;
-
unhealthy habits;
-
substance abuse.
We
offer positive alternatives to negative influences that include
messages from television, the Internet, video games, and music.
We take a biblical approach to addressing not only the spiritual
but also the academic and physical development of youth.
Our goal is to replace unfavorable outcomes
such as:
- dropping out of school or doing poorly
in school;
-
committing criminal acts that include violence;
-
becoming teen-age parents;
-
engaging in unhealthy lifestyles that result in obesity;
-
succumbing to drug and/or alcohol abuse.
with positive ones:
- achieving academic excellence and pursuing
meaningful careers;
- demonstrating
responsible behavior;
- showing
respect for others;
- exhibiting
good conduct in all situations;
-
maintaining healthy lifestyles
to include proper exercise and nutrition;
- making
sound choices based on biblical principles.
The key measure
of the program’s effectiveness is school success, defined as:
- maintaining a “B” average or better;
- having
regular attendance (95%+);
- exhibiting
appropriate behavior on and off the field.
Our strategy for reaching youth is
two-pronged: build credibility and understanding of The Boyz's purpose
through the Education & Sports Clinic in the summer; and offer follow-up
mentoring to motivate, encourage, and guide youth during the school
year.
